Who Can Opt Out

If you are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Plan and you have existing coverage under another insurance plan, you may opt-out of the Student Health Plan to receive a refund for the Health Plan Fee included in your tuition.

How Opt-Out Works

The Student Health Plan coverage period runs from September 1 to August 31 every year.

Opt-out is available to students eligible for automatic enrollment during their first semester of class within the current Student Health Plan coverage period.

Once you have opted out of the Student Health Plan, you will lose coverage until August 31.

After August 31 each year:

1. If you have classes in the upcoming Fall (September) semester and you are eligible for automatic enrollment, you will be charged the Health Plan fee in your tuition, and you may wish to opt out of the new academic year’s plan.
2. If you do not have classes in the upcoming Fall (September) semester, you will not have coverage until you are eligible again, at which point you will be charged the Health Plan fee in your tuition, and you may wish to opt out of the new academic year’s plan.

Opt Out Deadline

You may only opt out during your first semester of class within the current Student Health Plan coverage period.

If you miss the deadline, your next opportunity to opt out will be the following September 1, if you meet the eligibility requirements.

No exceptions will be made for missed deadlines.

How to Opt Out

To be eligible to opt out, you will need to provide proof of existing coverage from another health insurance plan.

1. Visit WeSpeakStudent
2. Select the Opt Out tab
3. Fill out and submit the opt-out form
4. You will receive your refund by direct deposit approximately 4 weeks after the deadline

Refunds

If you successfully opt out, you will receive a refund for the Student Health Plan fee paid in your tuition.

It will take approximately four weeks after the deadline for your refund to be issued by direct deposit.
